I have a house I'm trying to set up with 100 switches. I had used SA starter kit in my previous house and it seemed easy so we eliminated all of the 3way switches when we wired our new house. We have many rooms with mulitple circuits but all gang boxes are full with single circuits.

I like HAI and am purchasing the OPIIe and would like to use all HAI for consistency. Unfortunately, HAI does not have a Scene switch that controlls a load so I'd have to purchase 100 HAI UPB switches and then CUT IN an additional 15 switch boxes (with the additional $1500 cost) for the scene switches (something my wife would hate).

The other option is SA switches, but I understand that the light status is not as reliable as HAI using the HAI software.

Also, I am inclined to use one supplier to avoid support statements of "it's the other guy's problem"....

Any thoughts?

I have never used simply automated before. but i know the "it's the other guy's problem" has come up when ive called hai about integrating lutron and other non-hai components.

It has also seemed like hai tech support is limted when you use someones stuff even when they say they support it some tech guys dont even know what cable you use or how to enroll it. they've a few times even said call the other guy like they would know how to program hai to control there stuff....

Hi,

I have mixed SA and HAI products without any problems (so far) (did I just jinx myself?).

HAI switches now have Generation 2 UPB firmware in them, which makes them more reliable, less noise, etc. I'm pretty sure that SA didn't upgrade their products to this level of firmware. (Licensing, more $$$, who knows??)

Just something to think about.

Gen 2 products are not necessarly more reliable in every situation. In a vast majority of Gen 1 installs there are no problems, therefore no need to try Gen 2. If you have to have Gen 2 with the SA products check out Web Mountain. Their products are the same as SA and are now available in Gen 2

If you want to see more discussion on this check out Cocoontech.com

Gen 2 has changes in the UPB protocol that are significant.

What is Gen2?

The newly revamped UPB algorithms offer a boost in signal strength, especially in noisy environments, but the real benefit of Gen2 is its ability to operate in extremely noisy environments. Even though noise has been a rare problem for UPB, those few times when noise has been present have been difficult for the original generation of UPB products. Starting with Gen2, performance in noisy situations will be much less problematic. Gen2 will still work seamlessly with any original UPB products that are installed in homes where attenuation and noise are not impeding performance.

PS-Aaron, where's my sofware?

Any of you guys controlling Lite Touch 5000 with HAI omnipro II console? I use HAI porducts often and have little problems. Though I do agree the tech support can be frustrating. There are a few guys with HAI that know the systems in and out and can be very helpful. I am current trying to gain control of the lite touch 5000 and it's a bit difficult. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
