Hello Everyone-

I would like to put two IR controllable 1000 Watt dimming switches for 2 seperate Edison outlets (standard U.S. household outlet) in my media room. I need them to be controlled separately with my Pronto remote. What is a good 1000 Watt dimmer that fits this set up? (Just to let you know, my lighting is on a separate ground, neutral, and hot electrical house feed from my media equipment.)

Thanks-

Shawn L.

Shawn:

There are only two X-10 compatible dimmer switches that can handle 1000 watts. One is made by PCS and the other Leviton. Both are "true rocker" swtiches. 1000 watts is the maximum capacity of these switches. If you plan to place the switch in a single gang box, there won't be a problem. However, if you plan to place the switch in a 2 or 3 gang box then you might have a problem. These switches have heat sink tabs on the sides of the switch dissipate the heat that will be generated dimming a large wattage. Sometimes it is hard to fit several switches in one switch box due to the size of the heat sink tabs.

The Leviton switch is rated for less than 1000 watts if you install more than on of these switches in one electrical box. The PCS switch will handles 1000 watts in a multiple gang box, if you are able to fit the switch in the box without breaking off the heat sink tabs. If you must break off the tabs to fit the switch, the wattage capacity is lower.

Please send us an e-mail if you need more assistance.
