I would like to ask: Which one is the best X-10 Interfase and why.

I have used only CM11A: Has some problems but so far, is very reliable.

Well based on their forum content at: [Link: x10.com] --- I would suggest NOT the CM15a (I am a former owner).....otherwise, your question is very broad. You need to define what you want it to do for you, with some idea as to how you want to control or program it. (eg. connected to computer running 24x7..or downloaded and removed?) - And what would you like it to do that the CM11a doesn't or can't do for you today?

I Joesam

The discusssion I want to put is about the CM11A, CM15A, a SmartoHome X10 Interface or another one that do similar. I mean, is very interesting to exchange bugs they have, their perfonrmance, if they turn ON lights randomly (sometimes), theri reliability, etc...

From what little I know about it...

CM11A: Known to be a little flakey from time to time (it locks up), and you have to unplug it, remove batteries, for a few mintues.

Powerlinc: Havent heard of many (or any) problems with this unit.

Ocelot: Stand alone hardware controller. Stable, Independent, Programming logic via CMAX (lilke Basic) language.

CM19A: Wireless transceiver, decent range. Works with Ninja Pan'n'Tilt camera base.

W800RF32A: Wireless Receiver. Range is excellent. Can detect signals from DS10A window/door sensors.

CM17A: Wireless transmitter (aka firecracker).

There are a few others as well, but I dont have experience with them

MR26A: Wireless receiver

V572AB: Whole house wireess transceiver

CM15A is junk. Way too many problems.

So to answer your question, which ones best?

It really depends on your budget and your choice for HA software (does it support it?). Ocelot is my first choice. Followed by the Powerlinc for PLC, and the W800/V572 for wireless.

The Ocelot is the most capable interface on the market, because it can do anything and has IR in and out, price is reasonable at $147. The HAI and ELK units are also way up there in capability but cost quite a bit more.

If you want simple and cheap and basic the 1132CU and 1132CUP are very nice.

I get calls all the time about the CM15 problems; we chose not to sell them.

Ok Bill, fill me in. What would be my advantage to upgrade to Ocelot? I currently run SH1132CUP. You probably recall from the help you gave me with my garage door design. Which by the way works excellent..thank you sir for the help. I also agree on the SH filters. I have (2) of the 10amp versions and have been disappointed with the results when used with Lap-Top power supplies, I notice only about a 50/50 change in reliablity on that circuit compared to being unplugged completly. Thanks in advance for your advice with Ocelot.

Taken from the post above...

" Gang, the Ocelot is an amazing product... I love mine. Electron's right on the money about being able to offload a lot of chores to the Ocelot. Its response time is much faster than PC-based automation.

Here's the stuff the Ocelot can't do that HomeSeer can (not a complete list):

- Text to speech and VR, but you can use pre-recorded responses with the speak-easy module.
- Zwave, but there's a Zwave module in the works
- Web access, probably never will
- Essentially limited to X10, IR and relay-controlled stuff.... but that's a lot of stuff!

Visit ADI's message board, and you'll see just how complex some of the folks' setups are.

The Ocelot is a bit harder to program than HomeSeer is, and it's (usually) not possible just to "drop-in" someone else's program like you can "drop=in" many HS scripts that others write.

Since most people think that the Ocelot is just an IR transceiver, here are some of the things it can do that a simple IR transceiver can't (again, not an all inclusive list)

- Hold up to 2048 lines of program
- control low voltage relays (via SECU16 module)
- control high voltage relays (via RLY8XA module)
- control X10 devices (via PSC05 or other X10 interface)
- sense digital or analog relays and output devices (via SECU16 and/or SECU16I modules)
- interface with RS232/485 devices (via serial bobcat)
- sense temperature (via temp bobcat and/or analog sensor & SECU)
- sense light level (via light bobcat and/or analog sensor & SECU)
- sense humidity (via humidity bobcat and/or analog sensor & SECU)
- Can daisy chain multiple Ocelots and/or Leopards (touchscreen version) to increase lines of programing available
- Can have multiple IR-out zones (via SECU16IR modules) or IR-in zones (via additional Ocelots and Leopards)
- Record and playback sounds (via speakeasy module)

Now here's how I'm using mine: "

Read on to find out how jrfuda is using his :)

They even talk about monitoring a garage door ;)
Search that site using "ocelot" to grab a bunch more information about this unique device. Or better yet, follow the advice above and search the ADI forums.

You will love the Ocelot, this is what I do with my Ocelot & SECU16:

SECU16:
* monitor garage door
* monitor dryer using magnetic reed switch mounted on drum
* monitor washer using a simple photoresistor
* monitor level of salt in my water softener salt tank
* monitor floor pressure sensors
* control garage door

Ocelot:
I moved all my critical events from my PC to the Ocelot, such as scheduled lighting events, Christmas lighting, Car starter, basically, anything that you really don't want to screw up because failure, or because you were forced to reboot your computer after a windows update. I also control all my audio/video equipment using IR (i.e. when the phone rings or an announcement is being made, automatically pause and mute everything).

There is so much more you can do with this little device, and it is rock solid, it never fails, and one thing thing that is nice about it, is that it is only a 12V device, so you can come up with a better battery backup solution than a very inefficient UPS.
