I have a mx800 and a few x10 lamp modules I was using at my old place. I had purchased a infrared converter device from them to control the RF modules. I am now using RF via the 200 unit to control my devices. I want to hook up my lights again an am wondering the following:

Do I need to use the infrared/rf converter from x10 since the mx800 sends RF signals?

If I still need the infrared/rf x10 module, do I just stick one of the IR blasters to the front of the device, from the 200 module? If so, where exactly should I place it - since the receiver 'eye' is rather large - or looks large at least.

If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate hearing from them..

thanks.

what is this "infrared converter device" you're talking about? are you talking about an IR543 or is it part of your HTM MX-800?

Where are you located? In North America, the MX-800 uses 418MHz for RF while X-10's RF devices use 310MHz so there is no way for them to communicate directly.

Even if they used the same RF frequency, the X-10 RF protocol is very different from their IR protocol. The X-10 codes in the databases of most remotes are the IR codes for use with X-10's IR543 which receives IR and sends PLC (Powerline Control). There are links to documentation for the various protocols at...

Outside of North America, X-10's RF devices use 433.92MHz. If there is a European version of the MX-800 that uses 433.92MHz it may be possible to learn the RF codes and then send them directly using techiques similar to those for ProntoPro explained at...

Your IR543 works just like any other IR device you have in your house.

You can either use the main IR blaster from the front of the MRF-200 that came with your MX-800, providing the IR543 is in lin-of-sight with the MRF-200; or,

You can install one of the "flashers" that comes with the MRF-200.

Use a flashlight and have a look in the front of your IR543. You should be able to see where the IR receiver is. The put your flasher directly in front of that.

Your RF from the MRF-200 (you ARE in North America!) will not work with any X-10 products directly.
