If I order the lamplinc x10 modules from smarthome.com how would I go about getting the AV 3000 to control them??

you'll need to by an IR543 from smarthome (or somewhere else), and change the LIGHTING code in the remote to the x10 code (i thinks it's code 2005; look on or about page 100 in the manual).
