Hi I am new to this X-10 but have recently purchased here in the UK, 4 X Lamp Modules, 1 X Appliance Module and 1 IR7243 IR Mini-Controller. I operate the mini-controller via my Marantz RC 5200 remote control. I would like very much to BOTH control each lamp independantly as well as to control them simultaneously, without changing lamp module addresses.

I can put them all on the same address ie; A-1 and they will switch off and dim/bright simultaneously. But I don't have independent control of each lamp.

I can put them on different addresses ie; A-1, A-2, A-3 and A-4. They will all switch on and off together as well as having independent control. But they have to be dimmed/brightened independently.

Does anyone know how in the second case how I can dim or bright them all simultaneously with my remote as well as having the ability to dim/bright them independently?

Using a non-IR mini-controller, if I hit the on buttons 1,2,3,4 in rapid succession, they will all dim and brighten together.

I don't know if this will work with other controllers. Your other option is to use programmable, scene-capable dimmers.

What Larry suggests will work with the IR543 also but you will probably have to separate the ubnit codes from the function codes in your CCF file.

Thanks but could you explain a little more for me Dave? My Mini-Controller is a different one - does this make any difference? what do you mean precisely by splitting the unit and function codes? I am completely new to X-10 but I am capable of programming my remote.

Cheers

You can address several X-10 modules by sending the address codes before sending the function code. After the function code, the modules that were addressed will remain addressed until they see another unit (on the same housecode) addressed.

You can confirm this by pressing 1, 2, & 3 on your IR7243 and then pressing On or Off. You can do the same thing with an X-10 universal remote.

You can get the codes you need from CodeGen™. Choose IR543 - it's the same as the IR7243. You'll need to create separate buttons for each unit number and funtion that you want to use.

Brilliant, Dave - the penny has just dropped for me! The units on the same housecode can be addressed either individually or in a sequence with another(s) then a function code can be applied which will operate those units previously addressed! Simple now but I had not grasped this concept - a 1000 thanks.

This probably explains the somewhat erratic nature of one of my lamps - I had probably not addressed it - as a beginner you tend to press buttons in an adhoc manner to try and get the blessed thing(s) to work - now that I know how the buttons work it's straight forward! I had previously downloaded several X-10 ccf's but couldn't figure out how they worked so I put all the lamp modules on A-1.

Hi Paul
I have a similar problem, I need a onebutton dimmer which i can press and then a perdefined lamp will dim/bright to a desired level. I also downloaded several X-10 files but not one does the job
Have you found out how it works and can you post a ccf that will work
