Just got my RCA wall dimmer from X-10 and installed it. It dimmed once and then would only turn full brightnes or off. I live in an old apartment and I think the black power line in the outlet links to each switch and outlet in the room. I need to connect two black lines to the black wire on the dimmer or certain outlets won't get power (Kind of like with the old Christmas lights-one bulb burns out-the others don't get juice) Could this be over-loading the dimmer? My old manual dimmer worked fine for years. Are the X-10 dimmers more sensitive?

The wiring in the apt. should not cause a problem provided the switch was hooked up correctly. You should of hooked both the black wired together and connected them to the power in (line) on the switch. The power out(load) should go to the light only. If the light turns on and off, it is probaly hooked up correctly but check to be sure. Make sure the line and load are not reversed.

You may have a bad switch.
