Do you need a separate IR543 for EACH house code?

I want control over several house codes. Will the IR543 only work with one? Would I need a separate IR543 for EACH house code?

Is there a product (if the IR543 will not do it) that will? I want to use my Pronto to control it all. As I understand from this site, the CCF with the X-10 codes is just for 1-16, No house codes? is this correct?

Hope someone can shed some light,

Glen

Oddly enough, there's a thread further down the list titled EXACTLY THE SAME that answers your question. The house code is determined by a dial on the IR543, not via the IR code. So, two IR543s in the same room set to different house codes will receive the same IR signal at the same time and send their corresponding X-10 signal through the lines. However, the two signals will collide meaning nothing would happen. You can only have a single IR543 in a particular room.

Then what can I use to send to multiple house codes in the same room?

Glen,
The Homevision will receive IR commands and use them to transmit X-10 commands and macros. This is a very expensive alternative to the IR543 but it adds many more features. The Adicon 2500 will also receive IR and transmit X-10. This is similar to the Homevision but cost less and has a lot less features. You can also look at the PMC10 Pro Macro Controller from X-10. This will learn any IR and transmit a X-10 signal or macros. You could use this device and a few appliance modules to control multiple IR543's in a single room. You would use the PMC10's X-10 signal to select the IR543 you wanted to use. This way you could have all 256-house codes being IR controlled!

You may want to take a look at X-10's "Smart Home" . For $50.00 or less it may serve up all your needs. With Smart Home I only need one IR543. I am using seven house codes at this time. Most everything I do now is done with macros using IBM Home Director (same as X-10 Smart Home).

Using macros is a nice way to extend the amount of X-10 you can control with the IR543. Since most macros can be triggered with either a on or a off, you double your control to 32. If you can use dim and brights to trigger macros, you can control 64 macros! The downfall is the delay and the fact that you are relying on 2 X-10 signals not 1.
