Does anyone know of a way to be able to lock a door with an X-10 command. (No, I don't want to be able to UNlock the door--that would be foolish. You see, my wife always checks our doors to make sure they're locked right before coming to bed at night. I'd like to save her a trip around the house by automating the locking of the doors.

Any thoughts?

Hope it helps.

I have been looking at X-10 catalogs and web sites and I am sure it can be done but the price will probably knock you down. The locks were at least $70 each and good deadbolts were over $200. Some of the X-10 stuff is very reasonably priced but the exotic stuff is still too much for the average do-it-yourself experimenter.

I suggest just letting the wife check the locks. She's probably not going to trust the technology anyway since she doesn't trust you or herself to have already locked the locks. Besides, it's exercise.

If you're really desperate to keep her in bed, then mount a camera by each door where it can zoom in on the lock. Have them all routed into your bedroom where she can check all the doors by switching to a seperate channel for each door.

Better yet... and cheaper than cameras...

Mount a push button switch in the bottom of each door deadbolt hole. The switch should close the circuit when pressed. Make a simple LCD display to mount by your bed. Have a little light from every door that would be turned on only if the door was locked. One glance at the display would confirm all were locked or which ones needed to be. Who needs X-10 anyway?

You can use the Weiser Powerbolt Deadbolt locks with X-10. If you are interested in how to hook it up then post a message here and I'll send you directions.

Sincerely,

Scott
