I recently noticed that the “On” and “Off” commands on my IR543aren’t always working. They take several presses on my remote for them to actually respond. Any suggestions?

It could be a bad IR543 or it could be that your IR commands are bad, weak, wrong, etc.

Does the red LED flash on those occasions when it's not working?

Do you have the same problem when pushing the buttons on top of the IR543?

Does the problem get better if you hold the remote right in front of the IR543?

Does the problem get better if you move the IR543 to a different outlet on a different circut?

Larry, Thank you for your response.

I don’t think it’s a bad IR543 because I’ve had this unit for a long time (maybe a year) and I just started to notice this problem. I also don’t think my remote has a Problem with not being strong enough since I’m using the Philips Pronto.

No, the Red LED does not flash when the code isn’t working.

I don’t have any problems with the top Controls. Those work every time.

The Problem does improve a little when I hold the Remote in front of the IR543. Instead of taking five presses to turn on it would only take three.

I tried relocating it to another outlet and that didn’t improve anything. I will try it on another Circuit.

I’m also going to try different codes for the Pronto to see if that improves anything. Would changing the House Code have any effect?

Sounds like the IR543's IR receiver is going bad, your remote isn't sending the right codes or something's interfering with the IR signal.

Have you added any compact flourescent bulbs in the room lately?

Larry, Thank you for all of your help but I was able to solve my problem. I replaced the IR Codes with some new ones and everything seems to be working fine now. I guess it was a case of some bad IR Codes. Thanks again for your help.
