I wanted to use a 3 prong, HD466 Appliance Module to control an In-Sink-Erator Instant Hot Water dispenser. The dispenser specs are 115 V A.C., 4.3 amps, 500 watts.
I'm using Homeseer to turn the Appliance Module off and on depending upon time of day. It started out okay, but...

Now when I send an ON command to the Appliance Module's address the Appliance Module stutters or chatters a couple of times and then nothing.

I took it apart and looked at the relay contacts. They weren't burned or pitted, although there was some discoloration that I cleaned off.

If the HD466 can't handle this load, does anyone have any ideas on what module would?

Thanks,

David

The contacts' ability to carry the load has nothing to do with the chattering. You have a defective module; try another one. The only time a load on a relay can cause chattering is if the load is so great that it causes a severe voltage drop from the power source.

Thanks Larry,

I was curious so I dissambled the bad appliance module in question. The latching relay would only respond to "ON" signals, and the relay would cycle from it's current state, then through the next state, and stop at it's original state.

You're right. I tossed it and it's replacement seems to be working fine.

Thanks again,

David

It's my understanding that what you're experiencing is that something (usually the cheap plastic lever inside) is broken, which keeps the lever switch from oprating properly. Nothing you can do to repair it. Just get a new one.
