Has anyone hooked up the "home control" on an RCA satellite reciever? What is needed? It appears to be x10, and the format includes house codes and device code. Will a CM11A provide the hook-up?

Ed,
I know some people are using grounded appliance modules to control DishNetwork recievers with discrete On/Off codes. This can be accomplished with only an appliance module and an IR543 to accept IR commands from your universal remote. (i just made a big assumption that that is what you want to do). The IR543 and applicance module can both be purchased for about $40. I'd check http://www.homeautomationnet.com/ for both of these items.
Hope this is what you had in mind, if not, just post again...

I guess I wasn't real clear. On the RCA receiver menu is an option for "HOME CONTROL", which alows you tpo set timers for light modulkes and appliance modules. There are several timers and choices, much like ActiveHome. I spoke with an RCA phone rep who said that the "HOME CONTROL " option is unsupported, whatever that means. (I think it means he didn't have an answer in his book!) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone of our friends here at RemoteCentral have tried out this option, and, if so, does it work with X10 equipment? Thanks.

I'm only guessing here, but perhaps the RCA satellite receiver can spit out X-10 IR protocol. If so, then you'd need an IR543A (~$20) to translate the IR to powerline X-10. Another somewhat more remote possibility, is that it transmits X-10 RF protocol. In which case, you'll need a TM751 or RR501, RF to X-10 powerline transceiver. It is also possible but quite improbable, that it can somehow interface directly to a TW523 for X-10 powerline control.

How you're going to figure out what it really does, I don't know.

P.S. I think it's a reasonable bet that "Home Control", in this case, refers to some form of X-10, since RCA used to sell rebranded X-10 modules.

There's a I/O port on the back of your DTV receiver that with the right cable and X10 box, you plug it all together and you can use the DTV box to send out X10 codes on the line. You may be better off using the IR543 and putting the IRcodes into your remote/PRONTO..it's cheaper. Look in the USER manual (towards the back I think) for info on ordering the cable and plug in module. I THINK it was around $50.00US

The TW523 shouldn't cost $50 and the cord is just a phone cords that's wired straight through instead of flipping polarity.

Bill, do you have the TW523 separately? I couldn't find it on your site.

Yes in the X10 pro world it's the PSC05 for 2 way, and PSC04 if you only need to send out. They run around $17 for the 05 and $12 for the 04. There down at the bottom of this page [Link: homeautomationnet.com]

I am betting RCA backed away from promoting this feature when they backed out of X10.
