I am aware of ADI's own receiver, as well as the Xantech products, but I'm looking for a module that I can cut a hole in a drywall (sheetrock) ceiling and have just the receiver assembly poking through.
(has to be compatible with the ocelot)

I ca remember seeing a unit in a magazine that had a number of receivers splayed out in a circular pattern, this is what I want, but can't remember who makes it?

There are many IR receivers ICs that are compatible with the Ocelot. If for some reason, you just don't want to buy the ADI receiver, you could try the Radio Shack GP1U52X, but you'll need to add a transistor to invert the signal and provide the needed open collector drive, to interface with the Ocelot properly. You'd also need to wire up a cable to plug into the Ocelot's IR receiver jack. This would be a do it yourself project and I doubt that you'd save much money over the ADI receiver, in the end.

John, Now that you metion it, I dont know what the ADI receiver looks like, All I can recall is that in the owners manual, they indicate that it can be used. I'm not interested in saving a to of cash on this item (the Xantech table top link (hiddenlink?) sells for about 80 bucks canadian.

I want to hide the Ocelot above my suspended ceiling along with the PSC 05 and just have the "eye" of the receiver module visible.
That is why I want something with a bit more of an attractive bezel, it has to be discreet/attractive, not like yours truly ;)

We have a seperate IR receiver cable that you can connect to the IR Receiver port. It connects to the IR receiver power and allows you to hide the Ocelot. It's on about a 3 ft cable.

Kevin, thanks. is there any way to see what the visible end of this cable looks like? picture or description?)

I am visualising a "dongle" type of accessory, am I close?

Can it be integrated into something that doesn't look like a pig tail? (do you know what I mean?)

I think Niles makes an In-ceiling IR receiver called the MS360....here's the link.

Go to Infrared Extender systems and then look for the model number.

Matt, thanks this wasn't quite what I was thinking, but it will do if the ocelot allows it...

Haw about it Kevin Barrett, will the niles equipment work?

Bent,

I believe the Niles IR receivers operate on +12V. The Ocelot supplies +5V on the connector. If you're willing to make a custom cable to supply 12V and the Niles data polarity (active high Vs active low) and level are correct AND has an open collector output, then yes it will work.

Maybe send an email to Niles and ask them. What you're looking for, is active low, open collector output, from the sensor. Don't be too surprised if they fire back with a "we don't support nuttin but our own stuff" answer.

The cable just looked like a larger version of the emitter with double sticky tape for mounting. It's on about a 3' wire.

I do now, and will add it to my inventory of ADI. It is a real shame that the Ocelot could not supply the 12V that just about every IR receiver on the planet operates off of, especially when the Ocelot operates on 12V.
