I am planning to start with X-10 in my A/V room. I have a track light that I wish to control, Presently I have it on a manual dimmer switch. If I understand everything correctly, I will only need: IR543, and either PCSSIL/S600 or XPD3, along with my HTM MX1000. Am I correct so far? Now, if I wish to have the ability to set it on, off and dim to different levels which switch should I get? Then, how can I use the MX 1000 to work with this? How do I set it? Do I need discrete codes? What else do I need to know? Do I need anything else?

I know this is a lot, but thanks,
Martin

Martin,

Take a look at [Link: how.to] for information on the available IR transceivers.

I'd strongly recommend going with the PCS SS1L/S. It's a top quality switch and has the added features that really make the difference between a good and a great system. You can see a comparison table with the SS1L/S and XPD/XPS at [Link: ir-x10.how.to]

Thanks. I read the recommended sites and that clears up a few things. Do I need anything else, as I would like to place only one order and get everything up and running as soon as possible? (At least to start, as I know I will be adding more....)

I would also like to be sure that the MX 1000 is okay for this application. Will I have any problem controlling the dimming and setting 'scenes'?

Martin,

If your going with PCS, you should invest in a PHC02 Maxi controller for programming ($15.80), it makes programming a whole lot easier. You will find your MX1000 has the codes you will need on the AUX page (page 53) of the manual, for the IR543 use code "183". I will be building and IR543AH file for this remote in the near future, but the AH is more than you need at this point in your automation project.

Is the PHC02 recommended over the X-10 Pro 8, the Cinema 7 or it's Radio Shack cousin? Does it send out IR signals to be learned by the MX 1000? OR - is there a way to combine someone's data and combine it with mine to save time and get my MX 1000 working?

Thanks again,
Martin

The PHC02 is a hard button controller used just for programming the PCS switches. Your MX1000 need nothing just enter the code for X10 and it works, there is no need for an additional remote.
