Hey, I own a Sony RM-VL900 and i just purchased an X-10 starter kit. I was wondering if anyone out there knows how i can set up my remote to control the X-10 system? I've looked everywhere and i need a cheap solution! Thanks - Erik

Yeah, i've been looking around there. The Ocelot seems pretty powerful, but the price is steep. What about these pyramid things at [Link: homeautomationnet.com] that convert IR ro RF? They cost a lot less.

The Pyramid's are not IR->X10 transceivers. All they'll do is extend your IR signals from one room to another. You'll still need one of the IR->X10 transceivers if you want to control your X10 devices with your IR remote.

X10 has a product that will convert IR signals to RF, it's the 4040 IR X10 Command Console. It's about $30.00 USD.

This is the renamed and overpriced IR543, it converts IR to X10. The only product that X10 makes to convert IR to RF are the Powermid's (PEX01) or if you must pay 45% more, the same part sold under P/N 8210.

I have the same problem as erik... So your saying we could get a learning remote to work with X-10 if we buy the pex02. How do we know it'll send the right rf signal to work the X-10? The 4040 looks promising, but you have to go buyin more remotes.

No that's not what I was saying, the PEX01 just converts IR to RF sends it over a distance, through walls if required and then converts it from RF back to IR. This device does not interface with X10.

The IR543 converts IR to X10 and the IR codes to talk with the IR543 are in most universal remote libraries.
