Chris,

Are you located in Pensacola, FL.?

I see your posts/replies quite a bit and was just wondering.

I live in Foley, AL. I've almost finished the construction of my home here in Foley & I purchased the Speakercraft mounting brackets for the den, master bedroom & bath from All Pro Sound in Pensacola.

Just checking. If you are then I have a few questions for you.

Let me know.

Regards,

Scott Funk

Chris,

I want to distribute the audio/ video throughout my house.

I ran RG-6 cables, 14 ga. speaker cables and CAT-3 cable to all the rooms in the house. I terminated all of the speaker cables, two RG-6 cables & one CAT-5 cable in the den (where the entertainment center will go). I terminated the remaining RG-6 & CAT-3 into the closet next to the den. That's where I intend to place My video distribution block, phone disribution and one of my DSS Recievers.

I want to Modulate the signals from one of my DSS recievers & a video camera, so I can view either from any room.

1st question:
How can I set up the camera to automatically switch to say channel 71 (modulated) when someone walks up to the front door? I was thinking about using an X-10 motion sensor, but I'm unsure of how to make it switch to the modulated channel when motion is detected. The doorbell transformer is also in the same closet I spoke of earlier.

2nd question:
I will have volume control in my master bedroom & bath and was wondering about impedance matching volume controlers. The are quite a bit more expensive than the non-matching type. Do I need them (impedance matching) at all locations? I plan to add volume control as well (later)to the remaining 2 bedrooms, the kitchen and outside on the patio. I have pre-wired all these locations.

3rd question:
What type of Video Distribution block do I need to get from you & how much will it be? I saw the one (Cannel Master?) in the theater room to the left of the store and can't remember the specifics & price.

4th question:
Do you carry the Philips Pronto remote?

Chris, thanks for your help and I will definitely buy my stuff from you guys!

Sincerely,

Scott

Scott,

Good choice on the wire running sounds like you got just about everything covered. One thing about mounting the DSS in the closet is most new receivers have a digital output for the sound. Unless you have a fiber optic cable pulled, you mat want to reconsider mounting it into the closet. Also, a SVHS cable for the video would give a better picture than a RCA or RG6.

Probably the easiest way to do the camera at the front door would be X-10. You can use a motion sensor to start an IR sequence that could do many things. You would need a device to emit the IR no matter what way you choose. Check out some of these products: Smartlinc, Adicom 2500, Homevision and JDS. These are home automation controllers that will transmit IR when a X-10 signal is received. You could have the TV switch video inputs to show what or who is at the door and show the TV program in the PIP window. (This is how mine works) You could also use the doorbell to trip the IR sequence to insure no false alarms.

I would suggest the extra money for the impedance matching volume controls. These will save you amplifier by allowing a more even ohm load. If you had plans on leaving all the volume controls in the center position, you may be all right. I would spend the extra money since you have gone this far.

It’s hard to answer the video distribution question since there are so many options out there. I would suggest speaking with Stan, Blake or Jim in out Home Theatre Division and they can recommend the best one for the money.

Yes, we carry the Pronto! We also stock X-10, Smartlinc and any other items you may need for your home. If we don’t have it, well get it for you.

Thanks for your questions and hope this answers a few questions. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Chris! I bought my Speakercraft mounting brackets from Blake. He too, was very helpful!

I'm closing on my house in the next week. I'll be dropping by to get the speakers & to figure out the best course of action for the distribution block. I'd like to take a look @ the Philips Pronto while I'm there too.

What department do you work in? I'll say hey in person.

Thanks again,

Scott

I am the purchaser for the company. I also am the "do all" man of all trades. I installed new fans in the restrooms on Wednesday. I fixed the pipes last week to prevent them from freezing this winter... Just ask for me, I will say hello and show you around.

I like to hide, stay behind the scenes. I don't do pictures (just got married though so I got my share). I was in the newspaper once for some inventions I made in High School, won me a scholarship but about killed me. I was also in a magazine (Auto Sound and Security)...that was kind of cool though. I don't even get on the intercom at work and I've been there over 10 years. I am kind of a shy guy I guess. I think this year I may have to get my picture on it though. Maybe Brittany Spears will see it and come hunt me down! The problem is I never dress up. I wear shorts all year long (I love Florida), always wear a T-shirt and am never without a hat. Sort of a beach bum I guess. Anyway...that's why you don't see me. Check later.

I am thinking of distributing audio around my house (inside and outside). I have a Yamaha A-3090 amplifier and an Adicon 2500 X-10 controller (among other things). Can someone point me in the direction to finding how to accomplish this? I would like to be able to send audio from the CD player or amplifier to any of the speakers independent of each other (if possible).

Thanks,
Michael

You can use a simple speaker selector to have push button control of the speakers. Niles makes a nice selector and they make impendence matching volume controls which will keep from burning up your amp. If you wanted to use X-10 to control your speakers (I do, it's cool), you could use a relay to do so. Adicon has a relay switcher that would work nice to do this. What I did was modify a Niles SPS-4 (4 output speaker switcher) to have built in relays that respond to X-10. Let me know if I can help!
