I am new to the Pronto and want to use it to control my drapes, lamps and lights (some have wall switches). Can someone give me recommendations about getting started and where to buy the modules? Thanks.

GT,

There are many manufacturers of X10 devices, all speaking the same 'language'. So first, don't be afraid to mix and match brands (though this doesn't apply universally).

It sounds as if you're not planning to create the world's most automated house, so some basic goodies will get the job done. Let's go down the line to figure this out:

1) The remote uses IR signal, so that needs to be converted to electrical signal that X10 understands. The IR543 ($20+) does that.

2) Each device (light, drapes, lamp, etc) needs a controller. This can be as simple as plugging in a lamp module inbetween the lamp's plug and the wall outlet. Find the basic ones at www.x10.com for not much money, but the drapes module will cost quite a bit more, and I'm not exactly sure off the top of my head where to procure them. But they're out there.

Technically, that's all you need. But you'll end up doing more :) Trust me. It's addicting.

Thank you,

You will need a IR543 if you use your Pronto but X10.com does not sell them. You can get one at [Link: homeautomationnet.com] Also you may want to look at the switches that they sell. They are of a better quality than what X10 sells and a very good company to deal with. For your lamp modules you will need PLM01's. For your switches you will need XPD3's at [Link: homeautomationnet.com] As for the drapes it is a little more complicated at rrdeals said. There have been several post on this subject. Do a search with the word "drape" for some disscussion on this subject.

If your looking for a stand alone controller that will automate your house, sound system, and whatever else you can think of...check into the Addicon stuff.

The Ocelot and it's modules, the best pricing I've seen yet is at the above address... www.homeautomationnet.com

Hi, has anyone tried the home automation kit from X10.com? Is it easy to use? Is it worth the money?
