Greetings all,

I am planning to install an SR-227C split receptacle to control my "aqualuminator" pool light. The light is plugged in to a twist lock outlet at poolside which is wired into the GFCI breaker in the garage. It does not appear to have a transformer, and I don't plan on dimming. Does anyone have any experience with the indoor receptacle used in an outdoor application (in a sealed outdoor box).

Thanks,
Paul

Whoops, I goofed, there is a transformer as part of the awitch. The input is 120V 60hz, the output is 12V. As indicated I have no plans to dim this light. Will I be able to use the receptacle to replace the twistlock outlet currently in place? Any help is appreciated, even if it is not specific to this application.

Thanks,
Paul

I have two of them outdoors in a box and downstream from a GFI.

Both have failed but it has nothing to due with them being outside. In fact I have had about 7 of them fail and am tired of replacing them and am replacing them with appliance modules.

Usually in 6 to 12 months SR-227's will fail or that has been my experience anyway.

They have a plastic rod attached to the relay that breaks -- you will hear a racheting noise just before or after they break -- it sounds like the normal CLICK that they make but you will hear it three times instead of once.

This is a well known problem and a great example of X10.COM's value engineering.

There is no known fix except for replacement as far as I know.

Cheers, Jim.

From what you've said, the twistlock is on the 12V side of the transformer...so, no , you can't replace it with an x10 switch.

Actually the twist lock is on the 120v side. GFCI-->underground line to pool timer pole ---->120v AC in the form of a twistlock plug ----> Light switch with transformer built in to convert 120v to 12v. The transformer is part of the switch which is plugged into the 120v outlet. I just wanted to know if the SR227 will survive the elements so to speak since it was labled as "indoor use only". Thanks for the reply
