I am a complete novice...

I am having difficulty controlling a light with an Wall Switch Module WS467 and either a stick a switch or a palm controller.

I can not get the light to turn onn with either of the remote, but when I turn the light on at the switch, I can use the remote to turn it off.

Any suggestions?

You don't mention if you have a transceiver. Do you? You have to have one if you use a palm pad or other type of remote. If you do have you double checked that the house code and unit code on the transceiver and switch are set the same?.

You have a noise problem you need to solve. It is fairly common when you can get some functions to work, but not others, that it’s noise. Try plugging the transceiver into the same circuit that the lights are on and try it. If it still has problems, turn off every breaker except the main and the circuits to the lights and try again. If it does work, then turn on breakers one at a time until it stops working. When you get to the breaker where it stops you have found your noise source. You may also need a coupler.

Skipo,

I would assume that you concur with Bills opinion???

Would noise also cause the light to switch on by itself?

Ya, if it is not a phase issue all that is left is noise on your line. I have an old TV and a low voltage outdoor lighing transformer that needed filters. The lights will not work at all without a filter on the lighting transformer. Be aware that even if an appliance is not on it can still cause noise on the line. Thats why it is easiest to open breakers at the panel as Bill E. suggest.

A phase coupler is a device that "couples" the two 110V power supply lines coming into your main breaker box together. X10 signals travel on your home wiring. Some switches and modules may be on one phase and others may be on the other phase. If you use a tranceiver on one phase and all of your switches were on the same phase there would be no problem. Most of the time though if you have more than a couple of switches the transceiver and switch are going to be on different phase legs. Without a coupler a signal recieved by the transceiver on one phase would have to go all the way out to the transformer on your pole and then come back in on the other phase. By the time the signal gets back into your house wiring on the other phase much of the strength is gone and you get a weak signal that may or may not operate the switch. With a coupler it only has to go as far as your breaker panel. There are 2 types. Passive and active/repeater. The passive simply jumps the x10 signal from one phase to the other. The active repeater amplifies the siganl and repeats it for a more reliable operation. An active is recommended for houses over 3000 square feet.
