I have installed several X-10 switches in my home and I use the IR543 to control them with my Pronto. The problem that I have is that I cannot control three of my lights when I plug in the IR543 into two particular sockets that I have in the house (which are the most convenient ones to have the IR543). I have confirmed that my entire house operates on one phase. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks
Photis

Unless you have some really weird wiring setup in your house you should should have two 110v legs coming into your breaker box which would mean you have two phases. If you do infact have only one phase chances are you have an appliance creating noise that is interfering with the X10 signal. I would guess though that you have two phases coming into your house and that the problem is a phase issue that could be solved with a passive phase coupler. Post back why you think you have only one phase.

It's entirely possible that it's noise on your power lines. I saw the same sort of phenomenon before I put AF100 filters on my entertainment system and I was amazed how many problems that solved...

I agree with skipo that you may be wrong about the one phase thing. If you have a dryer or oven you home that is run off of electricity, you have two phases.

My first thing to try would be to move the IR543 around and try it in different plugs. If you can get the units to work when the IR543 is plugged into a different outlet, you may need a coupler.

As MMMfishies states, your problem could also be due to noise. Try unplugging all computers, baby monitors and TV's. Then try the IR543. It you get a response from the units, you may try plugging in a unit at a time and trying the command again. If you get to a point where it does not respond, try unplugging the last unit. If it works again, you may need to install a filter on the device.

Thank you all for your replies. It is my fault that I forgot to tell you that I live overseas therefore I have 220v. I am sure that is not a phase problem. Any other ideas please?
