I just received my first PCS scenemaster and installed it. When I tap the top of the rocker switch once or twice, the lights dim up. When I tap the bottem of the rocker switch once or twice, the lights dim down. They will not come on or off instantly. It is starting to annoy me. Is this a programming issue? (I tried resetting the switch to default settings with no avail).
Thanks,
Daniel

Yes, it's a programming issue. Most of us like the ramp up/ramp off. The default is the 3 second ramp rate. Look at page 6 of the Scenemaster Programming manual ( [Link: pcslighting.com]). Those are the different ramp rates that can be programmed for your various scenes. The 3-second ramp rate is usually used for manual control but I think you can disable that by disabling the Ramp Rate Enable (Page 8).

Tapping the top *should* cause the light to come on fully (at least to the previous dim level). The default should be for the light to go to full brightness, but it will also use "soft start" to get there, which means that it will ramp up to full brightness over (a default of) 3 seconds. If you want the light to come on immediately (without "soft start") you can turn that off using option 1 of mode 5.
Hope that helps, Rob

Rob's right. Turn off the Soft Start enable, page 16.

If you disable soft start you get "instant on" in all scenes also. Bill [Link: homeautomationnet]

So if I understand you correctly, there is no way to turn the light attached to the switch on/off instantly at the switch without compromising the scene dimming ability. Assuming I had PCS smartswitches througout my whole house (my original goal), and I wanted to turn the room light on/off at the rocker switch while walking through the room.....if it were on a 30 second ramp rate, I would never have light! The logic doesn't make sense.

When you turn the light on at the switch the ramp rate is either 3 seconds or instant. If it's instant, you don't lose the ability to have scenes at different dim levels, just the ability to have scenes at different ramp rates.

I have all PCS switches throughout my house also. Of course taste is subjective, I really like the 3 second ramp rate for on and off. It's much easier on the eyes and gives for a custom appearance.
