After reading the forum, I have been very overwhelmed by all the info.

x10.com has the set called "The Super Remote" home kit. Also I see they have a kit called "Active Home."

My needs are very basic, control my fish tank lighting and the bubbles, as well as two sets of lights in the living room.

I want to hook this all up to my Sony 2100 remote.

Will either of these sets work, or am I completly off?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

The super remote home kit would do just fine. The active home kit has a computer interface which in your case you may not need. The kit only include one lamp module which you would use for your light. Note that you need at least a 40 watt load for the module to operate reliabley. For your pump you will need an appliance module. ( [Link: x10.com] ). The remote control that is included will operate both light and pump. If you want to use your 2100 you will also need to buy an IR543. This will convert your IR signal from your remote to to an X10 code and then put it on your house wiring to operate the modules. I'm not familiar with the 2100 but it will have to learn the codes from the remote that came with the kit in order to use the 2100 for X10 control. You can get a IR543 from [Link: homeautomationnet.com]

On second thought you do not need to buy an appliance since the transceiver(TM751)in the kit is also an appliance module.

Skipo,

Although the TM751 has an appliance outlet, it can only be controlled by RF from an X-10 remote. The TM751 does not have any capability to RECEIVE X-10 signals over the powerline. The RR501 transceiver CAN receive over the powerline and can control it's appliance outlet from either powerline, or RF X-10 signals.
