Hi,

I started experimenting with X10 recently and love it. I've got a bunch of lights automated and some phone control, but I want to get this place speech/voice-controlled. Any pointers where I can get real info (other than sales pitches) on HAL2000 and HomeVoice? Or any others.

Also, what exactly is a Gate Limiter? I've heard the term a few times, but can't find any decent explanation of it's function.

If you can point to this info in a recommended book, that would be great!

Thanks,
-Neil.

You can start with HAL's site at www.automatedliving.com and e-mail them. There must be a HAL forum or users group that they are aware of.

As for your other question. A noise gate or gate-limiter will not pass an audio signal through it unless it is above a set threshold level. This keeps down the amount of background noise that a voice recognition system may pick up as a command.
