I have narrowed my problem down to my treadmill. When it is running, none of my x-10 controlled items work. I have tried a noise filter recommended by Bill at HomeAutomationNet.com as being one of the best on the market and it still doesn't resolve the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Sometimes it takes two noise filters in series for very noisy devices.

I've got a treadmill noise problem also. Which noise filter did you use?

Brian,

The ACT AF120 you purchased has a 30 to 1 attenuation factor, which is quite high. X10 needs a 100MV signal for reliable operation, noise over 70MV will inhibit reliable operation. A base line of about 30MV is what is considered good. If you are still having problems, you must be experiencing a couple of volts of noise, which is a lot but not unheard of. Larry is right, 2 filters can be required if the noise is bad enough.

The specs on this filter are at [Link: act-solutions.com]

Would noise pass thru an isolation transformer, 110V in 110v out?

Yes, it would work great the problem is the cost. A good 15A-isolation transformer runs a couple of hundred bucks. But certainly in some cases where you can hide the thing, it is a foolproof answer.
