Anyone have or know of a remote device that can automatically operate blinds? If so how much did it cost, where can I get it, and what does it do? I have sets of vertical blinds that I would like to have open/close and pull open/shut through the use of an X10 compatible device.

I don't think such an item exists.

You can purchase vertical blinds from HunterDouglas that are fully motorized, both open and close and tilt, but they are IR and very expensive.

You can also get a tilt only IR motorized from HD that is much less in cost. Some dealers might be willing to order you a new headrail in this configuration and allow you to use your existing vanes to cut costs. You'd have to use some sort of X-10 to IR converter for the control.

I probably wouldn't try this stuff unless you're technically into it a little, or plan to get that way. It's not just a turn-key approach.

If the blinds have loop cords for both open/close and pull open/shut, then a Motorized Drape Controller (from Smarthome - see [Link: smarthome.com]) pluged into an applliance module could be used on each. But this does work out expensive.

I would just use it on the vane twist & stick with manual up/down.

I just found this product at www.homecontrols.com
DRAPEBOSS DRAPERY CONTROL. Apparently the manufacturer has discontinued the product and they have it advertised for $100.00
