Im trying to build a set of commands for the Tivo HR10-250 HD sat receiver. When I try to use the IR library manager it wants to be connected to a COM port. But my RTI T2+ is connected via USB. Am I missing something or is there an IR manager that works with the USB port.

Gotta love it's my first day posters,(heavy with sarcasm) however I assume you have an IR PRO learning unit from RTI which is plugged into a USB port on your computer. With this you can learn all the codes you want, however your supplier for this remote should know all the in's and out's of this remote if they are selling it.

Secondly, I use the standard phillips tivo set that is in the library manager already or you can download RTI installers "mega list" which has it. Just do a search in this forum for "mega list"

Good luck

we were all first day posters at one time or another!

If you have the older T2, you can you can use it to learn IR codes, and add them into the library manager: the T2+ does not have the capability to learn IR codes

Ah so the new T2+ can't learn IR codes, no wonder I was confused, as there is nothing about that in the manual. So basically I have to use the Tivo library commands? I also have an RP6 unit that receives the commands from the remote. Do I understand that this has to be sent the same program that is in the remote?

Thanks for the quick response, I can see that programming the RTI can suck up a lot of time, but its really fun.

you have to download the program into both the T2+ and the RP-6: the program tells you when each needs to be updated

be certain you disconnect the USB cable from the RP-6 after the download before you use it

If you notice some unusual operations (example when you press Vol+ it responds with Vol- when it worked properly earlier), this could mean you updated the T2+ but not the RP-6: it happens!!

the T2+/RP-6 is really pretty straightforward to program once you get past the learning curve

That was my problem, I was not updating the RP6 after making changes to the remote. Is there any limit on how long the USB cable from the RP6 to the computer can be? I'd like to find a way to avoid having to go back and forth with my laptop.

I use a 30 foot USB cable for the RP-6 with no problem

I have two RP-6's fed by a common RM-433: one for each equiment cabinet: both have the same address because RTI has not updated the software for discrete RP-6's from one T2+ like the old system: sometimes I update one RP-6 and forget to do the second so I learned the hard way!!

when you disconnect the USB cable from the RP-6 after an update, it cycles off all the triggers
