I work for a Local Custom Home Theater/A/V Company, and we were wondering if anyone has used the K2's alot for just stand alone control of multi zone receiver type installs? We like the idea of using the K2 as a step-up keypad. Any positives or negatives would be appreciated. Thanks!!

They work awesome as stand-alone units, very dependable and probably the easiest to program keypad on the market. You can connect up to 4 units together with just 1 connecting block and a 1-amp supply.

I have installed quite a few of the K2 keypads. Very reliable, no problems, easy to program. I have used them for simple systems, such as controlling a receiver, CD changer, and Directv receiver for the music channels and they work great. I have used them as a Zone controller for an Spkcraft MRZ system. I have also used them as sort of a low cost control system for blind controlling an imerge server with 800+ albums on it. I would not try this with any other stand alone keypad that I know of. The scrolling list on the K2 allows you to do 500 buttons with text and easy to set up macros. You can do multiple scrolling lists. This way the client can direct access his server by genre, album, artist, presets, and playlists. The Xiva producer software can generate a excel speadsheet with album and artist info from the server, so that you can copy and paste that on to the scrolling list. That is a very nice feature of the K2, you can imagine the time saved verses typing in over 800 albums and artists. The only problem is that you have to tell the client up front that when they burn a new CD or make a new playlist it dosn't show up on the K2. I could sell and install a different control system that would do that for them, but when I give them the cost of that type of system they usually don't mind paying me to come out and touch up the K2. Another nice thing is if you have been doing Lexicon/RTI remotes you can use all the IR libraries that you have accumulated over the years. One thing I don't like is the standard buttons that come with the K2 are not very good, so I always order the extra buttons which are an added cost.
