Usually a cold water pipe is the best ground. Otherwise, sink a copper rod about 8' deep in the middle of the living room.

upstairs in my carpeted HT I lost two units to static shock: it happens going in/out of the charging base

they were promptly replaced by RTI with bezel fix:

I relocated my charging base downstairs (tile floors): no problems now:

Happy again!
