Has anyone else had any issue with static shock knocking out their T2+? It has happened to me on two different remotes. One that is in my home. If I don't shock myself on a nearby lamp first, I get a big static shock through thr T2+. Then screen on the remote is all out of wack, I then have to redump the programming. The other instance was at a customers house. His remote took the shock and I'm not able to get it working again. The buttons can just barely be made out. the funny thing is, they all still work, you just can't see the screen.

Anyone else have any issues like this?

Did you try unplugging the battery for 10 minutes or so and then re-uploading the program?

I had the same problem with 2 remotes- customer got a major static shock, then remotes wouldn't work. I took one home, recharged the battery, and it worked fine- except for a yellow line running horizontally through the screen. Talked to the tech at RTI and he said that they are aware of the problem and have linked it to the chrome plating in the bezel surrounding the screen. New remotes will soon be shipping with grey (non-mettallic) bezels. I hope this rectifies the problem. This is the best remote on the planet, but another round of problems like those associated with the original T2 could kill RTI, as well as their most loyal dealers.

I have two of the early T2+ remotes with the chrome bezel but have never noticed a problem with static shock

Do you think RTI will retrofit early units?

The only issue I have is the shutdown of the LCD screen: by reducing the "time out" setting to 5 seconds I rarely see the problem

You'd think they would have grounded the LCD display as I've seen LCD Displays on some commercial equipment we sell get blown by static discharge. In both cases the manufacturer grounded the LCD displays as the fix.

I like the idea of draging a ground wire around with the remote. You never have to wory about losing it.

well my T2+ met a similar fate this morning

there is now a vertical yellow line down the display and the display is near dead

Is there anyway to save it or does it have to go back to RTI?

Ooops.....Guess I didn't think grounding the display all the way through.

This is not
This is not necessarily a problem caused by static shock, but it is a possibility. RTI is now shipping the first batch of remotes with the plastic upgrade in place of the metal. If you are using your remote in a low humidity environment that is susceptible to static, you might want to contact your dealer about getting the upgrade replacement part which is also now available from RTI.

I received my first upgraded replacement T2+ today:

easy to spot the difference: the bezel around the LCD display is a matte grey as opposed to the original chrome bezel: look for a matte grey bezel to avoid static shock failures:

I am told the replacement bezels are easy to install: every T2+ should receive this upgrade: the remotes are most susceptible in/going into/coming out of the charger base

Anyone know if the new ones are shipping with this new piece? I am contemplating switching from HTM to RTI and going through training next week. Seems like an easy enough fix, but I have to think most distributors will still have stock on the shelf with the old bezels.

TIA

The replacement bezels are readily available, and very easy to replace, contact RTI or your dealer for the part.
