I want to change out a local HVAC thermostat to one that can be controlled by a T2+: my present thermostat is a standard 24 volt programmable type
Suggestions as to make/model of thermostat to use?

I beleive the thermostat at the link below will work via RS232 [Link: smarthome.com]
