I might as well throw in my 2-cents...er..$12 on the all-consuming topic of improving the RF capability of our beloved remote.

Go to RadioShack and picku up Cat# 20-006A which is a telescoping antenna for portable scanner and walkie talkies. Its frequency is adjustable by extending upper or lower segment of the antenna. I put a BMC connector at the end of the regular inferior cable that exits the RF-6 box without any other mods. In my case, I keep the antenna extended and laying horizontal inside my equipment cabinet.

Check it out. If it doesn't work for you, simply return it RadioShack. I would be interested in hearing from you if it worked or didn't work for ya.

Stay tuned. I am looking into modifying the battery so it doesn't cost a fortune to replace.

I have tried all of the Radio Shack antennas, some work better than others, the best results were marginal at best, but less money than buying the RTI hi gain antenna which also provides not much more than a marginal improvement.

My complete IRF-6 modification instructions should be available for download by Friday.

I have been looking for quite a long time to find out where the T2 batteries and chargers really come from. My intention was to find a battery with a longer run time and life span, but so far I have come up empty handed.

I have found that the antenna allows me to change channels in adjacent room as well as from the level below the TV room. Quite an improvement in my case.

The batteries are a series of four 1.2V. Toshiba F3's. I too cannot find them immediately available, but am looking at some alternative. Will let you know when I have tried out some alternatives that are viable.

I have tried the 20-006A it has about the same performance as the RTI Hi Gain. Sounds like you have a coveted low interference residences, which makes you a good candidate for whole home operation with the IRF-6 (gen3) modification, which will only set you back another $15.00. Plus you can still use your 20-006A antenna. Actually I haven’t tried the latest mod with 20-006A antennas yet, Ill have to run down and get one, might just be a better match than the RTI Hi Gain.
