I know that you've had to come up with a test method to remove as many variables as possible but I thought that I should just add that during my experiments I found that the "Blink" didnt always mean that a clean signal had been received. Visually the blink appeared normal but the resulting IR did not control the device.

It may also be worth mentioning, as it works in your favour, that the operation range could be less than 10ft in a typical home environment. Mine struggled at 6ft at some angles, with nothing but open space between the antenna and the T2!

I'd love to know what RTI think of all this. Could it be any more embarassing for them ?

Please note the Kitchen test!

When you have done dozens of IRF-6 installs, you get to where you can read the lights pretty good but I do discus the possibility of non-functionality near the bottom of the page.

Further a lot of people are jumping to contusions, I am putting up a page that has detailed instructions and hi res photos for the do it your selfer, this is only $15.00.

I am only charging the higher reasonable amount for me to do the modification. Parts, repackaging, going to the shipper works out to be less than what I make as an installer.

Thanks for your understanding as I get this all put together.

Believe me, no criticism was intended. $15 seems entirely reasonable. But...

My point is really that I'm gobsmacked that an RTI representative does not participate in this forum on a damage limitation exercise. An apology wouldnt go a miss for a start and a promise that the forthcoming models address the RF issues.

The obvious question is why shouldnt RTI be made to take back all the IRF6s they've sold and put right what shouldnt need putting right.

Has anyone installed an IRF6 that didnt need a modification to operate reliably ? This is a serious question.

The truth is that your modifications are not an after market enhancement but a fix. Again this is not a criticism aimed at you but most definitely at RTI.

John,

Not sure if you are new to the misery of RTI but if you search back posts here you will find more negativity regarding the CRAP that RTI produces.

RTI is obviously underfinanced and way over their heads when it comes to QUALITY!!

They have never responded to any post on this site to my knowledge.

The software is awesome but these guys can't produce a consistetly functional remote without having to pay RTI experts like you know who to make a $650.00 item work out of the box. Are we missing something, no..RTI could give a rats #$%%^ about their product and so why should we.

Soon, there will be non RTI remotes running the software we all love. Sonance already has an in wall version that's backed by a 5 year warranty.

RTI had it in the palm of their hands and let it slip away.

Sonance also has their own version of the T2 coming out and I must say, it is a really beautiful looking piece of gear. I will put photos of all their stuff on my web site as soon as my Sonance rep gets them to me with an OK to publish. I think that RTI is going to do just fine financially since they are starting to license their technology out to some pretty big players. I started out as an angry and embarrassed RTI installer several years ago, but I am a fixit kind of guy that’s what people hire me to do.

This whole modification thing has been an ongoing process for me; I kind of have this goal of attaining total reliable whole house control with just one IRF-6. So I have lots of things in the works. One of the projects I am working on is a new antenna Idea I have (megantenna). It will be about twice the size of the RTI Hi Gain antenna, it is really just experimental right now, and in so much as it is an unfinished collection of twisted wire & fiberglass rods of various sizes and compositions. Don’t expect anything real soon. I have a Gen4 mod I am working on for the remote right now also, although I am sure everyone is tired of me talking about that mystery, for lack of public availability at this time. I believe that the Rosetta stone is truly within the receiver and not so much within the transmitter; I am kicking around the idea of a diversity version of the IRF-6 where you have two receivers and two antennas fed through a logic circuit that is always monitoring each receiver to determine which has the strongest cleanest signal to use.

Lots on my mind but all done during my spare time.
