I have a problem that no one has ever heard of. My programmers have no clue what to do. My RTI remotes are controlling 3 Uverse cable boxes in 3 different rooms. All of them had to be reprogrammed as a result of a U-verse software upgrade to the boxes last summer. My programmers have managed to fix 2 of the remotes. The other remote is possessed. It works perfectly fine in the daytime when the room has daylight but in the dark at night some of the functions simply won't work. If I turn on the night table lamp beside the bed, it works fine but a soon as the room is dark certain functions won't work. The functions that won't work are the same functions that affected the other remotes after the software upgrade. My programmer fixed the other 2 remotes and applied the same fix to this one but the problem still exists. All 3 have exactly the same programming now but the one will simply not function properly in a dark room!

I'm going to have a stiff drink now. Anyone care to join me!

if the remotes are set for direct IR out, I suspect this means you have a plasma or CCFL backlit display in that room: at night, the IR noise emissions from the display are so strong (it bounces off all the walls) that the IR commands from the remote are down low in the S/N ratio, and the TV does not receive them

try a test to confirm this theory: at night, turn the display off and see if the cable box now responds

I will try that and report back. But if this is the case, why would only certain functions not work and not the entire remote?

Tried what you suggested - didn't work

and I assume you tried the other 2 remotes in that room and they work OK?

if so I tend to agree there could be a programming issue or defect with the one remote:

I think I would need a drink as well...

Does your display have some sort of eco mode?? If so try turning it off.

This caused me a big headache several years ago. Sadly it was summer in So. Cal so it did not get dark till nearly 9 pm.
When good enough is not good enough.

Wonder if it's some weird bug tied to the ambient light sensor. Put black tape over the sensor and see if problem happens in daylight
