That may sound like an ignorant question. It is.

I'm finally getting into iPad control of systems and I'm wondering what brands of products you guys are getting the best results with, using RTI for control. I searched this forum for "module" and only found four references!

This would be AVRs, CD players (ues) BD, Motorola cable boxes, in particular.

Thanks for any advice you can give.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks for the email.

Now consider the scenario. I watched two long videos at RTI's site today. I asked the above question. I get two emails from an email address I've never heard of. The emails have ZERO text, just a bunch of attachments.

Now, what is the most likely source of something that would infect your computer? An attachment to an email from someone you never heard of, made even more ominous by having no text.

For Jeez' sakes, identify yourself or make some kind of, like, SENTENCE explaining what's going on!

...and by the way, if you had answered the question here by naming names, then someone else coming here with the same question could share the answer. This site works best when information can be shared.

But thanks for the email anyway.

Ernie-

Not a dumb question at all. RTI has quite a bit of supported (developed and supported by RTI or third party) or unsupported (developed by another entity and not supported by RTI). From Audio distribution to security, there are drivers. Some of the best drivers are not even equipment, they are utilities and there are many talented guys out there that partake in development.

I will email you a list of drivers that are supported. Might be a little crude, but let me know that you received it.

Thanks. I got it.

I hope you don't mind if I come back here and share them with everyone. I can't be the only person who wants this info, though I've found over the years that I come out and ask things that other people want to know but don't ask for.

So is it okay for me to share these things?

This information is readily available to dealers who have an account with RTI. Since this is more of a public forum, I am not sure where this information would be of benefit. You wouldn't be able to access any of these modules without a dealer account, it would make sense for the user to visit this area of the dealer site anyway...

Even if you are not a dealer this info is useful to those that already own equipment and want to see if and how it is supported by RTI. And even if you own RTI it would be useful to know what equipment has supported drivers and hence plan accordingly with new equipment purchases.

This RTI forum used to very helpful but now it seems like it is just dealers telling others to go to the RTI forum as all the info is readily available there, etc. I'm really surprised Remote Central hasn't just shut down the RTI section as the useful info has almost completely gone away.

So in the spirit of helping I found this link to a driver list that is not exclusive to the RTI Dealers. [Link: myrti.de]

Drivers often have limitations, stipulations and caveats that could affect performance greatly and sometimes fall short of client expectations. It is best to contact a processional RTI installer so they can properly manage your expectations on how a driver performs and costs.

Yep if you can read the description of the driver then you can pretty much understand limitations and other features of the driver.

Only by reading the driver notes can one discern all the tech notes, features, best practices, issues, and models used for testing purposes.

RTI forums really are the best resource for these answers.

This was originally sent as a pm, but ernie messaged back asking why i didn't post it publicly. So here goes...

Cable boxes suck in general imho because most don't have discretes or rs-232 or ip control. That being said without discretes to detect power on/ off rti has a vps-1 power sensor and they use to make an sps-1 video sensor (which you can still get on ebay) or you can use a niles lps-1 to detect light. The ir code database has codes for a lot of cable boxes but not all. They sell an ir code learner so you can pull the ir's off any remote.

For AVR's... two way drivers include brands like denon, Marantz, integra, Yamaha, sony, pioneer, nad, anthem and more. ir database obviously has a bunch too.

bluray... integra, pioneer, sony for two way drivers and third party drivers cover oppo, sony, pioneer, sharp, denon, Panasonic and more. ir database has a bunch.

vague but hope it helps some.

and here is the reason why i didn't initially post it publicly....

RTI has their forums for a reason I guess is my answer. Being that it's a product sold and installed exclusively thru a dealer network they created forums specifically to help dealers with questions like you posed. Since the general public cannot gain access to and install the products themselves I'm not sure that discussing certain details via public forums is in the best interest of dealers like myself and certain things other dealers might frown upon. So I played it safe and pm'd. However what I pm'd is fine to post publicly just not sure if I see any benefit to it when the RTI forums exist. That info is useful to dealers but not so much the public. For example I can't imagine many folk would choose rti over another control platform solely on whether it can control a denon receiver or not. Perhaps but unlikely. I'd hope the overall solution would be what mattered to them in their final decision. RTI can control a slew of the most popular brands of products out there. It is a pretty well rounded solution. I could see the search term modules resulting in less then stellar search results. I've never heard anyone use that term for rti drivers, etc. Perhaps another control brand your familiar with using calls things modules? With the release of apex their next big software update we should see some "modules" with auto programming for devices.

If the dealer has to integrate these new products with the RTI control system wouldn't it be in the clients best interests to just contact the dealer versus relying on RC. Well mister dealer.... i bought this receiver because some dude on RC said so. He said it would work. Meanwhile it won't and your 30 day return window passed and now your stuck with a useless box you gotta sell on eBay or craigslist.

Yep like I said previously, the answer to almost any RTI question on Remote Central is to please contact your dealer for that info or go over to the RTI Forums if you are a dealer. Repeat....Repeat....Repeat.... Horse beaten to death.

I wouldn't rely on that list as it's not up to date. Best goto the RTI forums for the latest in third party drivers.
