I bought a house with an RTI system already installed. We've had a number of issues with it and I've moved to local, harmony-based control systems in several rooms. My theater, game room, and three upstairs bedrooms remain controlled by RTI - when it's working.

The installer only did this work as a side project and isn't doing it anymore. I need someone who can reprogram the system for some new equipment, debug what we have, and hopefully (in the long or short term) work with me on some theater upgrades and additional home automation functionality (especially security cameras and HVAC).

My wife and kids want to ditch the RTI entirely but from what I've read here and elsewhere its a good system that just needs tweaking.

If you can recommend someone - or are someone yourself - who can help, please let me know!

Best bet would be to look for a local dealer

Thanks. Because the effectiveness of the system is dictated so much by the installer, I'm really looking for a recommendation if possible. The only other person I know with an RTI system has had bad luck with installers. Even those who, like my last one, are authorized RTI dealers.

Obviously it doesn't have to be someone in Southlake - DFW area is fine.

Sadly, it doesn't take much more than a pulse to become an authorized dealer.

System programming is mostly what makes / breaks the system. The other side is proper hardware usage. If your remotes are running over zibee, RF, or IP then you must have solid signal coverage in the areas they are to be used.

Often times corners get cut trying to save a buck or 2. Not enough signal strength for the remotes to operate properly because additional antennas were not installed. Or programming skills are not up to par for the task at hand. This is where a quality programmer really shines. You also have to be willing to pay for that. I have programmed many systems where the programming bill was more than the product bill.

I chat with guys in Texas from time to time. Not sure where they are located. I'll find out and post back in a couple of days.

Thanks! I think I've found a good company, but waiting for the proposal... I have no problem paying for quality, I just hope that's what they deliver!

If you are concerned, which I would be after you brief experience and want everything to be as good as you expect, ask to see a previous job.

I am always more than happy to take a client to as many previous jobs to gain their trust, normally taking them to the last job, with similar equipment to what I would be proposing for the new job is enough.

I also make a point of leaving the room and leaving the the clients to talk in private. I have nothing to be worried about and have never lost a job when going to this effort.
