Doing my first programming of an AVR-X4000, and I figured I'd use IR to keep things simple, since I've not yet had a chance to do much RS232 with RTI.

The X4000 doesn't appear in the RTI DB (ID v9.3); closest I found was the AVR3300, which appears to have a dearth of IR commands :( So first question - any recommendation what Denon IR codeset from the ID library would be best match for X4000?

The other option is to try RS232 after all; I downloaded from RTI portal the file Denon_Marantz_Receiver.rtidriver v1.63 dated 5/1/2014; after a couple of failed attempts was able to load the driver into the XP6's Drivers tab, whereupon it showed up in the RS-232 library browser.

Is that it then, do I then merely need to drag/drop the buttons from RS-232 library browser to the remote hard/soft buttons?

Or ... do you find/drag commands from the DRIVERS tab of the library browser? seems like that may be the way, but it's rather confusing because some commands (ipod, zone discretes, menu) are in RS-232 tab of library browser, while others appear in Drivers > Driver Commands section of the browser? ???

The Denon IR commands are located in the Denon CI dealer portal. If you do not want to use IR you can use one-way serial (also in the dealer portal) or drag and drop the driver commands from the driver.

You want to use the driver, all commands you should need are there and the driver is only way to get the feedback on the remote of volume levels, surround modes, what's playing on the iPod connection or Internet stream, etc.

The rs232 library is meant to be used in a 1 way only application.

Yes I'll use the driver, thank you...found it, and I THINK I figured out how to grab the necessary commands and map buttons, just haven't tested it yet.

Question: I'm utilizing the t2x with xp6 in 433 mode, not zigbee ... There's no way to get 2 way to the remote this way, even with the remote on Wi-Fi?

Wifi will give you full two way! However note that their is a 4-5 second connection time via wifi. Many guys who use the wifi will only use it for the feedback but then still send the commands 433 so the commands are instant and the client isn't waiting for the remote to connect to the wifi to press mute...
