Has anyone had a chance to "play" with the RTI remote and the MX 500/700? What are your thoughts? I'm considering the RTI and a 500 or 700. I realize the 500 doesn't have the programming capabilities that the RTI and the 700 but I think it would be much simpler to setup (although less creative). I currently have a Pronto and I'm looking for something new. What do you think?
Thanks-
WTG

Now I can't talk for the mx-700 but I can for the 500. Stay away from that and get the RTI. Don't get me wrong the 500 is a fine remote and the 700 is an extension of the 500 but the RTI is that much more. I had the Marantz rc5000i which is the same as a pronto or as close as you can get and I bought a mx-500 and an mx-1000 and neither could satisfy my need for a good touch screen with an excellant compliment of hard buttons. Plus the programming of the mx-1000 was a pain. THe 500 can only learn codes. No computer customization. The software from RTI is very easy to use. The one big plus for the 500 however is the cost. The RTI will cost you alot more, however it is well worth the cost.

I've gone through many a remote to try and find my dream remote and at this point the RTI is as close as I will get. Very easy to use. Easy to program. There are alot of codes on this site for it. Just drag and drop.

All three are fine remotes but in my opinion the RTI is much better.

For another perspective, see

Main points to consider is whether you need both transport and menu commands on hard-buttons, do you need a powerful IR capability, or do you need RF capability.

When my T2 stopped working after a couple of years, I switched to the MX500 and find it more suited to my needs, very powerful IR, buttons for everything, etc.
