Hi All,

It has been a while since my last post. I have an elderly friend that is overwhelmed by the amount of remotes he must use to operate his tv. I want to make his life easier and as an RTI owner I figured i should look here first. I can program the equipment etc. What I would like is some advice on what to purchase. He will only be automating two bedrooms and only controlling the tv, dtv and the dvd player. What equipment should I buy? He will be using Ipad to control the devices, but there is possibility he may want a remote. I would like to purchase something that can control the devices like the dtv over IP if possible.

Thanks for advice in advanced.

Is it just the one Dtv and DVD unit to both TV's? or is it a TV, DTV and DVD in each room?

I would look at a XP-3 with Bedroom TV, DVD on one IR port and 2nd room equipment on another then run the Sats on the IP or Run them on the IR ports with each room.

You will need the XP-6 and a RTI License for each ipad to be used..one for each room?

The sats will need to be connected to the network with the directv broadband kit, and the XP-3 or XP-6 will need to be connected to the same network

Not sure what you mean by this. Are you a dealer? Just a heads up, RTI is not a DIY product. They provide no software or support to end users. If you are not a dealer you should look at DIY type products not RTI.

Not a dealer but own xp8 and to have programing software etc. I wanted recommendations from people that do this day in and day out. I have not done any automation projects for a while and thought it best to ask here. I am pondering becoming more active, i love te RTI products and the ease of use and ease of programming.

I would connect it to a wired network, I wouldn't try wireless just on the reliability issue

Fyi, the combo of the ipad app plus the surfir remote may be exactly what you are looking for.

XP3 in each room with the ipad app and surfir companion remote in each room.

All you really need is an xp3 and the iPad license. Like others have said you can program one port for one room and other port for the other. Then add remotes later if needed.

If you're not a dealer, where do you purchase product from?
