Let me start off first by saying that I have only ever programmed ONE RTi system, and with the help of Alex, I found out that my salesperson had no idea what they sold us would not work with RTi AND the customer wanted us to use lights that absolutely would not work with the Lutron lighting we ended up going with (per Alex' suggestion) we finally got it all working. This was two years ago.

The laptop I used has the old version of ID, my new laptop has the new version of ID...I still have both laptops. I recently upgraded the firmware on the remote, the T2 CS+, from version 1.0 to 1.3. I am also using the MRP-64 processor (ugh) and most of my programming lives on the processor. I used the system recovery wizard and got a back up of the MRP-64 without any issues, but when I try to get back up of the remote, i get this error..."An error occured during communications." then it says "Click troubleshooting help for more information".

When i click troubleshooting help, i follow all guidelines and i get the same error on BOTH computers with BOTH versions of ID...can someone enlighten me as to what i am doing wrong?

I recently started my own company, and I love RTi and will be buying my own system to play with and re learn all over again, but for now, I need the help of my brothers and sisters here on Remote Central. Please Help!

Thank You all so much!

Make sure you have the latest version of ID on the machine doing the recovery?

The Remotes can be rascals. Try a different USB port on your computer, but wait for a few minutes to make sure the RTI USB driver is completely loaded for that specific USB port. If you are connecting a remote to a USB port that has never had an RTI remote or that specific type of RTI remote plugged into it before. The software will have to load the USB driver before you can access the remote with ID.

If that is not the problem, as dumb as this sounds try a different USB cable I have gone through many so yes they do wear out.

Trick#1 (sometimes this works) When you get the error, power off the remote, unplug it, power the remote back on and right before it boots all the way up plug the USB cable in, then when it finaly boots  all the way click the recovery upload button. Sometimes this also works when you get upload errors.

Trick #2 This usualy only works on uploads, if you get an communication error durning an upload unplug the USB cable from the computer and plug it into another USB port wait a few seconds if it does not start to auto upload unplug and move back to the prior USB port and see if it auto uploads

Trick#3 power off your laptop, take the battery off and let it sit for a few minutes, put the battery back in power up and then try the upload, doest work very often but it has worked on a few machines.

Haha IP connection to a t2cs remote.. I'll assume you're joking.

Taw, I'd suggest calling RTI. Their are several known incompatabilities with the recovery wizard and some devices (rtipanels for example). A quick call to them and they can tell you if their is something else you can do or if it just won't happen.

nothing worked, i actually updated my remote and then realized that i never had the lighting programmed...somebody else did the lighting and therefor left me without the program...so i lost all lighting control. Its Legrand Vantage lighting and i am going to make a new post to hopefully get some codes.

Sorry you couldn't get it to work. Out of curiosity did you ever call tech support? It might be one of the known bugs they have with the wizard

Had the same issue with a T2c+, nearly bricked the thing! Was told it was a Windows issue w/ USB driver- and it's 'particularly bad with Lenovo'. Ran back to the shop for HP laptop (both W7-64bit) and did not have the issue... Boggles the mind.
