I have a system with an XP8 that's utilizing virtual panel and an iPhone for remote access of the system. The system has been up and running without issue for over a year but suddenly all remote access has stopped functioning. I checked the DYNDNS subscription, and it's active. The router has the proper DYNDNS settings and verifies successful communication with the DYNDNS. Port 4110 has been forwarded in the router. Integration Designer is showing the correct DYNDNS settings for RTI Panel/Virtual panel.

When I check the attached devices on the router the IP address for the XP8 isn't listed. I see all the IP addresses for the RK3V's, music server, and other attached devices, but not the XP8. If I reset the XP8 the IP address will pop up for a second but then goes away. If I watch the routers attached devices for a while the XP8's IP may pop up for a second but then vanishes again. Even with this happening the RTI system on the LAN works fine. I have many products using IP control and there's no problem with them communicating with the XP8, rather it's only the virtual panel and RTI panel that don't work.

I spoke to RTI tech support and they say it's gotta be something on the local network that's knocking the XP8 offline, but why does the local system work fine even when the XP8's IP isn't showing up on the routers attached devices list? They also said it's probably something to do with Comcast changing their DNS settings. I'm not a network guru so I'm in need of some help. If anyone has some ideas let me know.

The entire point of DNS is so that if Comcast changes thier IP address your DNS server account will change accordingly real-time and seamlessly make things happen on your end.

Have you reserved your static IP for your XP-8 on the router? Are the correct ports open? By reserving the static/Mac of your XP-8 may help things and keep things more stable. If something is knocking you off the challenge would be to find it. Firewalls, other devices that are using those ports and other applications could be a culprit. Last resort, ensure your DNS service is compatible with Comcast.

Thanks for your input. Very frustrating situation. The XP8's static IP has been reserved. I'll be diving into this next week. I'm planning to call Comcast to see if they've made any changes to my clients modem settings.

I have seen a lot of routers that have problems with showing static up devices in their IP tables or attached device list. If the other devices can communicate with the xp8 (rk3) over Ethernet and the xp8 can serve up the weather and control IP devices then this is not your issue.

I have in the past had remote access stop working and generating a new system encryption key fixing it. This is done in system properties where you manage your RTIpanel licenses. I would also temporarily try putting in the actual WAN IP address instead of the dynDNS address in the system properties.

Have you tried deleting the app from phone and re-adding? You could also try changing the port. Lastly I would create a new system file from scratch and see if you can get that to work.

Thanks for your help. The issue turned out to be with Comcast's cable modem. Comcast always seems to find a way to cause problems. Wish I could bill them for my time.
