I have a RTI T3 remote. It doesn't power on anymore, and when I put it in the dock the screen flashes on and off rapidly as long as it is in charge. Do I just need a new battery for this remote, or is the remote itself broken? If the latter, can I get this serviced or should I just get a new model at this point?

How old is the battery? If its more than 3 years old, it is might just be the battery.

It is pretty hard to make a diagnosis of a broken battery from just what you have told us and without actually seeing the remote. If it is broken, then it may be possible to get it fixed, but you would have to send it to RTI first to get the answer to that.

Get a new model? Maybe, talk to your dealer and get his opinion.

Its a bad battery, that's pretty much what RTI remotes do when you put them in the charger with no battery. Battery's for T3's typically don't last longer than 2 years. yeas they will work beyond that age but their performance will be problematic.

I agree that it sound like the battery is bad. You should try charging the remote and then taking the battery out and checking it with a voltmeter battery tester (if you have one available). The battery should register at around 3.7v if it is still good. Replacement T3 batteries are only about $10 and if your remote is at least 2-3 years old it is the best place to start.

Follow-up. It was the battery. Ordered a replacement from amazon and it instantly returned to working state.

Of course in the intervening 4 days I already bought a got a used T3-V and I'm loving the higher resolution screen and generally upgraded feel of that, so I now need to find a new use for my T3 remote (maybe replace the Harmony remote in my gaming room with it and use the T3-V for theater :>)

How did you manage to program the T3-V?

Friendly local RTI dealer who will upload the programming to my used ebay remote without making me buy the remote new from him.
