Hi everyone.

First post... and already a question.

I'm struggling setting up a procontrol setup (prolink.z & pro24.z) to control a pc under windows (MCE / XBMC). First time I'm trying to do so.

The procontrol setup works perfectly to control through IR or RS232 other A/V equipment but it miserably fails to control the pc: the IR receivers seems to pick the remote keypress once in a while only. I have tried
- to play with the strength of the IR signal through the processor,
- a different IR receiver module,
- I even tried a different PC ,
- different MCE IR code (from the procontrol IR library, from learned IR code, and importing MCE code from here)
without more success
It is not a debouncing issue: I disabled it in windows registry + the behavior is different: ie very seldom picking up the IR.

Any ideas? Has any of you been successful in controlling a pc through a procontrol setup?

Thanks for your help!

PS: I would have love to go through the IP route if procontrol had made a driver available for MCE/XBMC... but they don't...

What IR receiver are you using on the MCE? And if you use the MCE remote that came with the IR receiver, does it work then?

I don't know much about this, but I believe some are controlling MCE via RS232. Check out this thread.....

If you're comfortable with rS232 control, this might be the way to go...

Thank you Pepper for your answer.

I have given up trying to make this procontrol setup works directly with MCE / XBMC.

This may be link to the IR receiver that I'm using. I suspect them to be demanding on the frequency / signal strength they accept. Just fyi I'm using a streacom IR card receiver and a Konig IR MEDIA CENTER REMOTE Rrf: CMP-MEDIAREM12.
I have not been able to make them work correctly neither with the processor -and I did adjust the signal strength- nor directly from the remote.

I finally purchase this dongle http://www.flirc.tv that allowed me to record the IR signal send from the pro24 and map them to key command. It works perfectly in XBMC.

I have order another IR Receiver (the "USB IRT"): I'll try again.

Otherwise and just to give it a try, I'll have a look on the RS232 path. Worth testing in any case.
