Would anyone familiar with both these remotes please comment on your preference and reasons? Thank you very much for any insight you can provide!

I can comment on T2 vs. MX-500, which is very similar. My T2 stopped working after 2 years sterling service (see other thread), so I've just replaced it with an MX-500.

T2 advantages:
1. PC programming (which the MX-700 has).
2. Rechargeable battery.
3. Lot's more flexibility in using macros.
4. Touch screen looks nice.
5. RF - if you need it.

MX-500 advantages
1. More hard buttons, especially transport controls. This works SO well with my Sky+ SAT/PVR box and DVD player, where you need both menu and transport buttons. This is, IMHO, the MX-500's biggest advantage over the T2, and would stop me buying a T2 now.
2. The ten hard buttons with LCD labels are easier to use than the T2's touch screen.
3. VERY powerful IR. Works round corners, etc. I find this amazing, and has made it far more reliable for the wife to use the macros without missing a step because she didn't keep the remote pointed in the right direction.

If you really like hard buttons (which I do), the MX-500/MX-700 is great. If you want powerful macros, and a touch screen, then the T2 is great. Of course, the MX-700 has more features that I can't comment on, so may get even closer to the T2's power in terms of macros, etc. I decided to get the MX-500 instead of the MX-700 to save money, and because I really don't NEED PC programmability, or the extra capacity of the MX-700.

2. Rechargeable battery.

true that it comes that way, but you have to take the battery out to charge it. So you can easily replace that by buying regular rechargables for the 700. (and you would not be at the manufacturers mercy if something goes wrong with the battery.

We use both remotes, and they each have their place. Both are great remotes, and each have their advantages/disadvantages.
The MX-700
- No cutom buttons or logos
- Can't have a IR database of ea component
- Can't manupilate the IR code structure
- Has more hard buttons
- Less Expensive
- Takes a lot less time to setup
