I have a customer who has an existing RTI T2C & RP1 and the remote keeps locking up. He purchased it from another dealer about 6-7 years ago. The company is now out of business so I don't have a copy of the file and I can't remember if you can upload a file from a remote or not. The last time I touched an RTI remote system was about 5 yrs ago.

The customer is selling the house and leaving the remote for the new homeowner and I need to get that system working for the new homeowner. The remote is fairly complex and there are a bunch of RTI remotes in the rest of the house so I thought it might be easier to replace it with the same remote & reload the programming instead of switching him over to something else or having to program a remote from scratch.

I still have a copy of the programming software on my computer and still have access to their dealer website.

Thanks,
Matt

Yes you can, with a catch. If the other dealer put a pass code on the software, then you are out of luck.

A few things to remember when pulling a system file:
1. Make sure your software is newer than the one they used to program it. You are better off just downloading the latest version.
2. Start with a blank file, it will populate the devices as you upload them.
3. Upload EVERY device in the system.
4. Afterwards install the latest firmware on all the devices.

Good luck.

Upload from the processor first!!!! Then the remote!!!!

If you upload from the remote first it won't see a processor and give you " Macro does not exist " on system macros.

If there is a password on the project file, call rti tech support and they might be able to help.

Be sure you've located every RTI piece in the system. There are many remotes, as you say, and you won't know if they are interconnected until you download all of them... I think. That is, I had zero idea WTF was going on with one system I was called to help on... then we found a processor that had been dropped behind a construction detail and was invisible to us.

Now, if there are two separate systems in the house, they shouldn't upload into one system. Again, I think. Someone else will have to comment on this.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

If they were originally two system files then no you would not want to import into one file. However I see no reason why someone would put remotes within the same house into separate files. Especially if its old one way stuff like described.

How would you know if they are in separate files before uploading? I have a job coming up with 4 separate systems, each with a T2C. 3 have RP1s and one has an RP6. Should I just upload all processors, and then all remotes?

Also, are custom graphics transferred over within the system file as well?

If you find a remote and an RP? in the same area, upload both those devices and then check the remote for any macros on buttons. If all looks good, and you don't find "system macro does not exist", they could have been loaded as a separate file.
If you find errors like above, then there are other devices that need to be downloaded.

In large homes with multiple systems and no distribution of audio or video you could easily find the remote systems were done separately. They might have been done at different stages. It also saves going around the house having to possibly load to all devices when making some changes in one area.

Thanks. Will give it a shot and see what I find. Any idea on if the custom graphics will transfer over?
