It's the other way around. With RS-232, you have a solid connection and control over the device. With IP, if and when the network goes down, you lose control of the device.
The driver from mydevice allows up control but only on the 105 I believe. The 103 can be done rs232.
I find rs232 to be more reliable. It is a dedicated connection and not dependent on multiple other devices such as routers and switches. The only thing you won't see rs232 that you see IP is cover art.
