I have an AD-4 that is tied to 4 pairs of speakers. If I wanted to add more speakers to the 4th zone I know I can add a separate amplifier, but can I attach speakers to that amp and allow for more speakers for that zone? Is this possible?

The AD-4 doesn't have pre-outs so you can't really add an extra amp. The way to do it would be to get a speaker level to line level adapter:

Go from that piece into a stronger amp and run all the speakers you want for that zone off of it.

Thanks, didn't realize the AD-8 was the only one that had pre-outs. What if my question was based on the AD-8? Would I be able to hook up speakers to the amp that is connected to the pre-out to add additioninal speakers to a zone?

Yes. You can set the output as variable to have volume be controlled in sync with the built in amp or fixed to control volume with your external amp.
