OK, let's say a want an RF signal to get translated into an IR command to execute PLAY on my DVD Player. How do I do this with the software? How would I connect the RF receiver to my DVD player?

You need to plug wired IR emitters into the receiver. The actual emitter is placed over the IR receiver on your device. This is designed so your equipment can be used in another room, behind closed doors, etc.

Couldn't you also connect any of the RF unit's IR outputs to a repeater/blaster type IR emitter and use it to relay all the remote's commands? That way you wouldn't need to worry about placing individual emitters. I thought I read by default commands are routed to all outputs.

Actually, blasters are inherently less reliable than individual emitters. I would recommend that you use low power visible emitters from Xantech placed near the components sensor eyes. These visible emitters are great they are called BlinkIR by Xantech.

Daniel's review says:
The IRF-6 is a six-zone IR router, IR connecting block, RF receiver and control system all in one package.

Since it is a ROUTER, you can count on the fact that each IR port is routed. However, that doesn't mean there aren't many ways to configure it. Hopefully, someone from RTI will comment.

I would expect that you could in fact use your idea. I just don't expect that you could find a place to put a blaster that would:

1) Reliably control all of your components all the time.

2) Not get accidentally knocked around by your dog or yourself.

3) Look good.

Geesh, Eric, what do I get if I can do all three? :-)

DJ-
I originally had a blaster in what seemed like perfect position that met all three of Eric's conditions. However, I found that it wasn't near as reliable as I thought, so I switched to individual emitters and everything works much better.

Hmm, I wonder why a blaster can't be at least as reliable as the actual remote's emitter? Surely someone out there makes one good enough ... even if it's powered.

1) Do any ir emitters come with the unit?
2) If not, What brand emitters did you hook up?

1) Nope
2) I used Xantech, however it works with any "industry standard emitter".

I can't believe they are shipping the RF unit without emitters. What am I supposed to do with it? I mean it is certainly a very pretty blue, but without emitters, the thing is useless. For $299 you'd think they could throw in a couple....

I guess I'll go buy some Xantech emitters now.

Do you mean that I need to buy the RF unit and buy some RF emitter from other companies like Xantech? (does Xantech product support 220V?)

BTW, what do the video sync and power sync from RTI do? Any difference with RF emitter.

Heinz,

They aren't RF emmiters, they're IR (infrared) emmiters, and they use an industry-standard miniature phone plug interface. The problem is that there are different kinds and they don't know which you'll want to use, although I suppose throwing one in wouldn't hurt. They work alone or in conjunction with the video and power sensors to provide conditional commands to a device.

I've used Xantech ones with good success.

The power/video sensors also require an emitter, which plugs into the end of them, and according to what state the device they're attached to is in they will either send or not send IR signals.

Sorry for the rather stupid question.

1. If I installed the Xantech emitter, what is the point to use a video/power sensors.

2. Is the IR emitter just some kind of cable, or does it require power?

3. In what ways will a RS232 interface better than an IR emitter? Is it just a better look?

4. Is the IR emitter compatible to most equipment?

I plan to buy the following for my new HT:

Proceed AVP + AMP 3 power amp
Pioneer S10A DVD + Faroudja 2200P Processor
Lutron Graphik-Eye 3000 + Luxaflex remote-controlled drape.

Please let me know whether the above can work with Xantech or should I buy something else or wait for the release of RS232 interface from RTI.

Sorry for this long message!

1. Before them. RF Station -> Sensors -> Emitters.

2. It's just a cable. "Power" comes from the RF station through the cable.

3. Completely different thing. Unless at least one piece of your equipment has an RS232 serial interface it's completely useless. Most common devices with RS232 are high-end receivers, projectors, etc.

4. I'm not sure what you mean... if the component can be controlled via the T2, the IR emitter will work.
