Let me start off by saying I've never programmed RTI before. My company to this point only sells URC products.

New client wants a speaker in her shower and the ability to control her iPod, sing in the shower, and wash herself clean. While I could probably help her with 2 of the 3 objectives, I'm only getting paid to help her with the first one.

So I've decided to try RTI U1 (or U2) plus an RF base RP-1

My questions are.

1.) is it pretty easy to do such a basic system (RF control of iPod dock only! I'm going to use a Russound R290DS which will auto sense the iPod playing so she wont need to power anything else on AND this system will be local for just her master bathroom)

2.) are there any specific docks that work well with RTI or don't work well. For example, my top choice would be the Apple Universal dock since its made by Apple and most compatible with their products (and has IR capability)

Thanks for any and all advice!

Can you put a keypad in the wall if so, why not just choose something simple like a Xantech Waterpad, you can use IR directly through the keypad and need nothing else but a connecting block and an emitter.

If you cannot install something into the wall, then the U1 would be the best bet with the Apple iPod dock, since there is not really much control with that device, and the U1 is cost effective at that point.

The RP-1 & U1 combo is fairly simple to put to work, especially for a situation like that, where you are only controlling one product.

There are other docks that work much better than the Apple dock, but for your situation, it just might not call for it since total shower time may only be 10-20 minutes, so there is no need for playlist scrolling, genre/artist selection and so on...

I personally like the URC iPod dock, the control set with them are just amazing and very flexible, but I usually use them with 1-way scenarios and touch screen remotes that allow for more information to be shown on the remote.

Also, take the time to watch the on-line training videos.
