I have a weird issue driving me nuts..

I programmed a customers rk3 and xp8 to control an extensive av system. I'll save all the details and get right to the problem area...
I have a cables to go VGA switcher that is part of the system. I used the ir-pro to capture the codes from it's remote and created my macros.(nothing crazy, 4 buttons that each select one of four inputs) They worked perfectly.. Once.
They work sometimes, sometimes they do nothing, sometimes they do the wrong function..
The switchers emit an audible beep when they recieve a signal. Even when the button press causes no change in the switcher it beeps..

Here's where it gets annoying. After hours of getting nowhere I got frustrated and decided to start programming the t1. I used four buttons and programmed each using the same captured codes.. They work absolutely every single time! The t1 is connected to the xp8 with an rm433, the rk3 through a cat6.. Switcher has an emmitter eye out of the xp8...

What am I missing??

Adjust the output gain of the IR port. You might be flooding the IR receiver on the switcher, or not giving enough signal.

Are you using the IR adapter pigtail that is included with the XP-8? If not you should be if you dont have any other accessories installed on the MPIO port.

Have you created a test page on the RK3, with just the buttons for the switcher?
If they work well there, it might be something in your macro.
Is the macro created on the RK3 or is it a system macro on the XP-8?
Could be some sort of timing issue with other codes in the macro confusing the switcher, are you assigning ports for your outputs or is everything flashing?
Lots of little things to look at when using RTI, and troubleshooting a system.

Check to make sure the IR Pass through on the RK-3 has been disabled, if it has been enabled there could be some stray IR that's creating problems.

The codes work EVERY time from the t1, so I don't think it is ir strength.. The "macro" is only one command.. "input 1", ect.. And they are identicle to the t1.. I actually did a copy/paste macro FROM the rk3 TO the t1... That's what's killing me!
I found:
- it is not the ir codes.. They work fine on the t1.
- it is not the port routing (double checked to be sure, same as t1, and correct)
- ir pass through is off ( I rarely use that but double checked to be sure..)
- Everything else works.. I mean EVERYTHING.. So really highly doubtful of a bad rk3
- resent programming and waited for device to return to normal state before unplugging, so I know it is a good transfer..

I really am very familiar with the product, and have programmed a ton of very elaborate systems with little issues.. It's the easy ones that get you! The only thing I can see different from the rk3 to the t1 is communication.. I think I'm going to hard wire the rk3 with only power, ground, and ir.. That way it is connected just as the rm433 is to the xp8..

The only other issue like that I ever encountered was a viewsonic projector that worked perfect for a few weeks, then stopped responding to rs232 commands for rgb and component video.. All other functions (power on/off, blank on/off, ect..) still work, just no source functions.. Using ir for now until I get it sorted, but no discreet source codes for viewsonic ir source functions.. Pain in the butt!

I hope that didn't come off rude.. I do appreciate any input, and I do know how easy it is to overlook the simple things...

in your macro, have you tried adding the command a second time.
Because it's a discrete code, should not matter that your sending it twice, but it might work.
I have had to do that with ir codes that were acting odd in the past.

I'll try that.. I can't imagine why it would only need that on the rk3 though.. I did try raising the number of minimum repeats, and even making it continuous with no luck already though..

Make sure that both the RK3 and the XP8 have the lateist software also what do you have the RK3 on the properties under the output tab under the Two-way transport, Ethernet or RS485? Also is the RK3 connected straight to comport Port? Hope this helps, good luck and GOD bless you and if that does not work try praying.

I second the firmware issue... some of the current firmware on the RTI site is not working. You can email them for fixes that are not posted yet (use 7.2 to do the upgrade!)

Also, make sure your output settings are correct (i.e. one-way trigger codes, two-way etc...) I found out rudely today that the latest firmware upgrade for the RK1 was glitchy and would not recognize the one-way output setting.
