what would be the best way to simulate a sliding dimmer for a lightolier ir lighting system.
Sorry for not including the system i have. I have a T3-V zigbee, XP8, RK3. I figured i would have to use multiple screens to show the animation, i was just wondering if there was any other way to do this. I kinda wanted to be able to touch the screen and make it look like when you slide your finger it ramps up or down. I guess i could hide buttons in the animation to make it look like it or i could just do boring presets.

Me, I'd start by getting a remote to program. I just don't see how to simulate it without a remote!

Now that I'm done with the smartass answer -- on a T2-c, maybe you could program the up-down button under the screen to send up-down commands.

Really, though, as it says in my signature, we need to know the model numbers of the stuff you're working with. And you might want to make a set of screens that look like a sliding action is taking place if the lighting can go to preset levels... it all depends on what you haven't told us: exactly what you're using.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Everything Ernie said, PLUS - the prerequisite that RTI does have a 2-way module for the lighting system you are controlling. Assuming they do, all you have to is load the driver on to the processor, place the button, attach a driver command of "Dimmer level" and and set the dynamic level peramter to %.

Of course, this could change depending on the button, the driver commands, and the processor your using, so refer to Ernies comments above.

From the original post above, you say you are using a Lightolier IR controller. Therefore, I don't think it's possible. The slider controls for RTI require a 2-way module, so the lighting controller would have to be serial or IP controlled.

yeah i understand all about the two-way drivers and things, i was just curious if anyone had come up with a way to mimic the look of a sliding dimmer on their remote and if so how did they do it. but i figured its not really possible

You could do it with IR if you had discrete IR codes for different lighting levels.  i.e. 0%, 20%, 40%, etc.  Then you could do different visible/invisible buttons by setting and clearing a bunch of flags.

Of course, this all goes out the window if someone turns the light on or off from the dimmer itself, or a lighting keypad, or from another scene, etc.  No way to track what's actually happening so it would really be a waste of time unfortunately.
